Hadrian’s Wall was built to mark the northernmost frontier of the Roman Empire. The Wall, and the National Trail, are literally on the doorstep.
12th century Lanercost Priory is only a mile away from Quarryside. The nave is now the parish church, while the rest is now a striking and romantic ruin.
The Pennine Way
Quarryside is close to the northern end of The Pennine Way – one of the UK’s best known and well-loved long distance walking trails.
Talkin Tarn is a nearby Country Park – with lots of peaceful walks in the surrounding woods and great watersports facilities too.
The rugged countryside of Northumberland National Park and Kielder Water is nearby. Europe’s largest Dark Sky Park is perfect for walkers and astronomers alike.
The Lake District
The Lake District is famous for its dramatic landscapes and charming villages. Quarryside is an ideal base to explore some of the world’s most beautiful countryside.
Brampton is a pretty historic market town, with plenty of local shops and other services.
Remote Bewcastle is the heart of Border Reiver country. Its 7th century cross is an incredible piece of Anglo Saxon art.
Carlisle – the medieval Border city – is 12 miles away. Its historic castle and cathedral, and lively shopping centre, make a great day out.
